We don’t eat a whole lot of Italian meals.
I understand, crazy right? I believe it is because I’m a little bit enthusiastic about all things Mexican (enchiladas, chips, guac, tacos… etc)! It’s just too good to refuse.
Earlier this week though I simply acquired a craving for ravioli, lasagna, garlic bread or basically ANYTHING ITALIAN. Unfortunately all I put in my cupboard was tomato sauce, but guy, do that sauce appear great. Like I type of wanted to consume it from the jar and contact it dinner.
Is that weird?
I thought to myself for a long time about what I could carry out with the tomato sauce. I mean, besides spooning it into my mouth area or simply warming it up and pretending it had been tomato soup. At one stage I considered purchasing breadsticks from Pizza Hut just so I could drop them in the sauce, but made the decision I wasn’t that desperate.
I ended up searching the freezer and found low fat ground turkey. Obviously cute small meatballs came straight to mind!
Simply look at that steamy goodness!
I especially love this formula because it only takes about thirty minutes to throw together. The ground turkey is coupled with an egg and the following spices: cumin, garlic sodium, black pepper, red pepper flakes, a pinch of cayenne, basil, oregano, plus a bit of dijon mustard. Given that might appear like a lot of spices, but it results are drop useless delicious!
I baked my meatballs in the range for a quarter-hour then transferred these to a skillet with tomato sauce simmering on medium-low. Then I carefully spooned the sauce on the meatballs in order that they would continue steadily to soak in the taste. It did not disappoint.
Now you can certainly work with a pasta sauce of your decision (garlic, red pepper, tomato basil, or marinara), but I decided to work with a simple good-quality tomato sauce since I wanted to jazz it up with my own herbs like new basil and oregano. Also, unless you desire a spicy sauce after that simply omit the reddish colored pepper flakes.
I actually made this dish twice this week! The second time I added sliced up mushrooms to the sauce. (You need to too!)
You guys… I must say i love these meatballs from the bottom of my heart. They’re healthy, juicy, and satisfying over a whole grain such as quinoa, pasta, or brownish rice. Comfort food makeover, right?
I believe that adding the Burrata cheese was what really made the dish particular; it melted in to the tomato sauce and developed a creamy flavorful pop. If you don’t have Burrata, feel free to make use of fresh mozzarella.
Ideally I’ve convinced you to definitely jump on the meatball loving bandwagon cause I am obsessed with those small bites of heaven.
Have an excellent Labor Day weekend!
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1 teaspoon cumin
For the sauce:
2 cups tomato sauce or your preferred pasta sauce (marinara works well)
4-5 large basil leaves, chopped
1 teaspoon oregano
4-6 ounces of Burrata parmesan cheese, cut into huge pieces
Preheat oven to 400 levels F.
In a big bowl, combine the turkey, bread crumbs, egg, minced basil, garlic salt, oregano, cumin, dijon mustard, black pepper, cayenne, and red pepper flakes. Mix together and roll into 1 inches meatballs. You will end up with anywhere between 16-22 meatballs.
Bake meatballs for a quarter-hour.
While the meatballs are baking, help to make the sauce. Warmth a large skillet on medium-low and add tomato sauce and oregano. You now can add any herbal products or additional elements such as mushrooms or crimson pepper flakes in the event that you desire. Sauce will thicken.
Once meatballs are done cooking, add them to the skillet; spoon the tomato sauce generously over the meatballs and add the basil.
Place the Buratta randomly within the tomato sauce and/or over the meatballs; continue cooking on medium-low for 5 more minutes or before cheese provides melted into the sauce.
Serve meatballs over grain or pasta of preference. Would also end up being great over spaghetti squash.
And of course other ingredients within the pantry
