A couple weeks ago I put the opportunity to travel to Rancho La Puerta in Tecate, Mexico to experience the Ranch’s phenomenal environment, food, fitness, hiking, spa, classes therefore much more!
It came at a time while i was feeling just a little desperate for sunshine, and turned out to be a phenomenal experience…
In regards to the ranch
Before we get into all of the delicious details, I’d like to share with you a bit about Rancho La Puerta’s history. The family-owned and controlled ranch was founded in 1940 by Edmond and Deborah Szekely. While I didn’t get to meet Deborah personally, I’ve heard incredible reasons for having her nature and zest for life! Deborah is now 93 yrs . old, still lectures on the ranch every week and functions hard to change and inspire healthful lifestyles. When you have one minute and need to learn more about the ranch and its own history, check out this video concerning the ranch narrated by Deborah.
Guests stay typically 4 or 7 days and result from all over the world. This is not a weight reduction resort, but instead a place to see general health and wellness. You may make your personal schedule for the day, and perform when you please, although I would say that most guests end up working out a minimum of 1x per day. Each day differs though, and you can make it whatever you like.
While much different than my typical Mexico vacations of drinking tequila and shoving chips in my mouth, this is still unbelievably beautiful and FUN. Our days consisted of TRX, yoga, and circuit classes, hands-on cooking food presentations and classes, a natural farm encounter, 6am sunrise hikes, and mainly vegetarian-focused food. I LOVED IT.
Now I don’t know about you, but personally I have trouble sitting on a beach all day simply lounging around. I could do it for one hour roughly, but from then on I wish to become doing something active with my own body or brain. My ideal vacation involves having brand-new experiences, staying energetic and eating GOOD meals. The ranch provided exactly that.
Did I miss having potato chips and guac? Sure! However, I loved just how my mind, body and soul felt in the ranch. I had been inspired, well-rested, creative, relaxed but still energetic. Would I do it once again? YES. In fact, I’d love to provide my Mother and Grandma for the girl’s trip! We pointed out that there were plenty of multi-generational families arriving together.
The rooms & property:
The property has ended 3,000 acres, and that means you know you’ll get your steps set for your day. Everything is certainly surrounded by a vast selection of gorgeous plants, herbs, bouquets and trees. It’s essentially like moving onto an oasis in the center of the desert.
Our rooms were large with firm, comfortable mattresses. Our villa had a fireplace, veranda, and even just a little kitchen. One thing to note: There’s no TV or internet within the rooms, which means you really do have to be in a position to unplug. Various lounges around the house offer internet in the event that you should check-in.
The food!
All meals are served in the dining hall, but breakfast was always undoubtedly the best. I enjoyed the scrambled eggs with salsa, coffee beans, cilantro & onions. In addition they serve corn tortillas, cinnamon oatmeal, the very best muesli EVER, wholegrain bread, clean homemade jam, warm water with ginger & lemon, tropical fruits and so very much more.
Another perk: There are always gluten free of charge or vegan choices for those who need it. It was often fun to find out what folks would create making use of their breakfasts. One day I made breakfast tacos and the next morning I had fashioned my beloved peanut butter toast with banana.
Lunch may be the same circumstance. Lots of vegetables, protein & new flavors. Plus they always have chia, dietary yeast, flax seed products and a wide array of spices and herbs out. It influenced me to put more spices and herbal remedies on my salads and veggies.
The organic farm:
One evening we could actually head to La Cocina Que Canta , the ranch’s organic farm to pick out vegetables and herbs for our cooking class meal. The herbal products were some of the freshest; we picked them straight out of the backyard and sampled as we proceeded to go. I learned you could actually eat arugula blossoms (and that they are Mouth watering). It had been apparent the Ranch and their gardeners do a huge job at caring for their land and soil in order to keep such flavorful and fresh vegetables.
This was a true highlight from the trip for me personally as you of my dreams is to have my own organic garden. (In fact if you noticed via Snapchat, Tony lately has started our own indoor organic garden inside our sunroom!)
Cooking classes:
The Ranch offers wonderful hands-on cooking classes for guests throughout the week and luckily I was able to attend two of these! Each night the foodstuffs we created had been diverse, innovative and FLAVORFUL! These were offered family design, so we each worked well in teams on the recipe. The dishes themselves mainly on vegetables, legumes and seafood. Triple check!
The very first night in the cooking school, Liz and I cooked probably the most great tasting chipotle corn chowder with poblanos, fresh corn, potatoes and a number of spices. I’m certainly hoping to recreate it for you personally guys just with time for nice corn season. Keep tuned in!
I will claim that I left the food preparation course feeling inspired with a few new cooking techniques. Including how exactly to create a actually rich tasting vegetable broth. YAS to that.
Fitness classes & hikes:
Of course you understand I hit up those fitness classes and hiking (my favorite workout). The very first morning we continued the Professor’s hike, a 3.5 mile loop in to the mountain behind the ranch. If you check out the ranch, certainly take the time to do the hikes. They are just the right amount of complicated and place you in an excellent morning hours mood.
Another hike offered may be the organic breakfast time hike, where you travel to the cooking college and enjoy a lovely organic breakfast time.
Swimming pools & Juice Pub:
There are many pools round the ranch that are both quiet and relaxing. They also have an incredible organic juice pub for if you are searching for an afternoon go with me up. Try the beet juice!
Overall, I cherished the ranch and highly recommend it. The group tends to be a little old and female-based, nevertheless there were a lot of couples and family members. I’m getting excited about heading back one day!
