A couple weeks ago I had fashioned the opportunity to travel to Rancho La Puerta in Tecate, Mexico to see the Ranch’s phenomenal environment, food, fitness, hiking, spa, classes therefore much more!
It came at a time when I was feeling a little desperate for sunshine, and ended up being a phenomenal experience…
In regards to the ranch
Before we get into all the delicious details, I’d like to share with you a little bit about Rancho La Puerta’s history. The family-owned and managed ranch was founded in 1940 by Edmond and Deborah Szekely. While I didn’t get to meet Deborah personally, I’ve heard amazing things about her spirit and zest forever! Deborah is now 93 years old, still lectures at the ranch every week and works hard to transform and inspire healthful lifestyles. When you have one minute and desire to learn more regarding the ranch and its history, have a look at this video in regards to the ranch narrated by Deborah.
Guests stay typically 4 or seven days and come from all over the world. This isn’t a weight loss resort, but instead a place to see overall health and wellbeing. You may make your very own schedule for the day, and do when you please, although I would say that a lot of guests find yourself working out at least 1x per day. Every day differs though, and you may make it whatever you prefer.
While much unique of my typical Mexico vacations of taking in tequila and shoving chips in my mouth area, this is still unbelievably beautiful and FUN. Our times consisted of TRX, yoga exercises, and circuit classes, hands-on cooking food presentations and classes, a natural farm knowledge, 6am sunrise hikes, and mainly vegetarian-focused food. I LOVED IT.
Now I have no idea approximately you, but personally I have trouble sitting on the beach all day long just lounging around. I can do it for an hour or so, but after that I want to end up being doing something energetic with my own body or mind. My ideal vacation involves having new experiences, staying energetic and eating Great food. The ranch provided exactly that.
Did I miss having potato chips and guac? Sure! Nevertheless, I loved the way my brain, body and spirit felt on the ranch. I had been inspired, well-rested, innovative, relaxed but still active. Would I really do it again? YES. Actually, I’d love to bring my Mother and Grandma for a girl’s trip! We pointed out that there were a lot of multi-generational families arriving together.
The rooms & property:
The property is over 3,000 acres, so you know you’ll get your steps set for your day. Everything is normally surrounded by way of a vast array of beautiful plants, herbs, bouquets and trees. It’s essentially like stepping onto an oasis in the middle of the desert.
Our areas were huge with company, comfortable mattresses. Our villa had a fireplace, deck, and even just a little kitchen. One thing to note: There’s no Television or internet within the rooms, so you really do need to be able to unplug. Several lounges around the property offer internet in the event that you should check-in.
All meals are served within the dining hall, but breakfast was always undoubtedly my favorite. I cherished the scrambled eggs with salsa, coffee beans, cilantro & onions. They also serve corn tortillas, cinnamon oatmeal, the best muesli EVER, whole grain bread, fresh new homemade jam, warm water with ginger & lemon, tropical fruits and so much more.
Another perk: There are always gluten free of charge or vegan options for those who require it. It was generally fun to see what folks would create making use of their breakfasts. 1 day I produced breakfast time tacos and the next morning I needed my cherished peanut butter toast with banana.
Lunch is the same situation. Lots of vegetables, protein & fresh new flavors. Plus they will have chia, dietary yeast, flax seed products and a wide array of spices and herbal remedies out. It inspired me to put more spices and herbs on my salads and veggies.
The organic farm:
One evening we were able to head to La Cocina Que Canta , the ranch’s organic plantation to choose vegetables and herbs for our cooking course meal. The herbs were a number of the freshest; we selected them straight from the backyard and sampled as we proceeded to go. I learned you could actually eat arugula blossoms (and that they are Mouth watering). It had been apparent the Ranch and their gardeners do a huge job at caring for their land and soil in order to maintain such flavorful and more fresh vegetables.
This was a true highlight from the trip for me as you of my dreams would be to have my very own organic garden. (In fact if you noticed via Snapchat, Tony lately has started our own indoor organic garden inside our sunroom!)
The Ranch offers wonderful hands-on cooking classes for guests through the entire week and luckily I could attend two of these! Each night the foodstuffs we created had been diverse, innovative and FLAVORFUL! These were offered family style, so we each worked well in teams on the recipe. The formulas themselves mostly on vegetables, legumes and sea food. Triple check!
The very first night at the cooking school, Liz and I cooked probably the most mouth watering chipotle corn chowder with poblanos, fresh corn, potatoes and a variety of spices. I’m certainly hoping to recreate it for you personally guys just in time for sugary corn season. Keep tuned in!
I will state that We left the cooking class feeling inspired with several new cooking techniques. Including how to create a really rich tasting veggie broth. YAS compared to that.
Fitness classes & hikes:
Of course you know I hit up those fitness classes and hiking (my favorite workout). The very first morning we continued the Professor’s hike, a 3.5 mile loop into the mountain behind the ranch. In the event that you head to the ranch, certainly take the time to do the hikes. They are the ideal quantity of challenging and place you in an excellent morning mood.
Another hike offered may be the organic breakfast time hike, where you travel to the cooking school and enjoy a beautiful organic breakfast.
Swimming pools & Juice Pub:
There are many pools around the ranch which are both quiet and relaxing. They also have an AMAZING organic juice bar for if you are looking for an afternoon pick out me up. Try the beet juice!
Overall, I adored the ranch and highly recommend it. The crowd is commonly a little older and female-based, nevertheless there were plenty of couples and family members. I’m looking forward to heading back one day!
